Dr. Sherif Elbarrad

Introduction

Dr. Sherif Elbarrad is an accountant, scholar, and award-winning educator with decades of experience teaching and innovating in academic settings. Currently, he is the Interim Dean of Management at Concordia University of Edmonton. Previous to this position he served as the Interim Associate Dean for Student Engagement & Success at MacEwan University. Formerly Dr. Elbarrad was the Associate Dean of MacEwan University’s School of Business. Over the years, he has taught accounting at eight different universities in Egypt, Germany, Saudi Arabia, and Canada at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and he has served as Chair of Accounting at three different universities.

Dr. Elbarrad has extensive professional experience in financial and management accounting. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Professional Accounts (FCPA) in Alberta and an Associate Member of the Montana Society of Certified Public Accountants. He has also developed and delivered several accounting workshops for executive managers in multiple countries. Furthermore, Dr. Elbarrad has laboured to create numerous accounting courses for the undergraduate and postgraduate levels at several universities and has received Teaching Excellence awards from many of these institutions.

In 2021, Dr. Elbarrad was honored with the L.S. Rosen Outstanding Educator Award, presented by the Canadian Academic Accounting Association (CAAA). This prestigious award “recognizes an educator’s contributions to Canadian accounting education through excellence in teaching, educational innovation, publications, student mentorship, and active involvement in professional and academic societies and activities.”

Dr. Elbarrad has participated in peer reviews for universities in both Canada and Saudi Arabia. He has authored numerous publications, including research articles in peer-reviewed journals and textbooks for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. His latest work is a financial accounting textbook published by Pearson.

Dr. Elbarrad received both his BCOM (with distinction) and Master of Accounting degrees from Ain-Shams University in Egypt. He earned his Ph.D. in Accounting through a joint program between Ain-Shams University and the University of Cologne in Germany.

Academic Accreditation Experience

Prof. Elbarrad has extensive experience in academic accreditation, working with international teams to ensure high standards of academic quality and institutional effectiveness. He led the successful EFMD accreditation process at MacEwan University.

As a peer reviewer for several prominent accreditation bodies, including the National Centre for Academic Accreditation and Assessment (NCAAA) in Saudi Arabia and the Campus Alberta Quality Council (CAQC), Prof. Elbarrad has played a key role in the accreditation of numerous programs and institutions. Notably, Prof. Elbarrad contributed to the recent review of the Accounting Program at Mount Royal University’s Bissett School of Business.

Prof. Elbarrad’s expertise in supporting institutions through the rigorous demands of accreditation processes has made them a valuable contributor to academic excellence worldwide.
